Safari Program Summary
The wildebeest migration river crossing beginning in July, moves north and passes through the Lobo and the Wagakuria area en route to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. In September, the wildebeest herds are spread out over the northern Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Several large herds of wildebeest remain behind in the area and weather changes may sometimes bring the herds back into the area from the Mara. In October, the herds move south towards the central Serengeti National Park via the Lobo area of the Serengeti National Park.
Safari Itinerary

Tarangire National park is one of the best parks for game viewing in Tanzania. The park was gazetted first as a Game Reserve in 1957 and became a National park in 1970. The park covers about 2600 sqkm. Tarangire Park has a natural hydrological regime that ensures year around Permanent water.
The park is known for its Tarangire River and valley, Wetlands, rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and acacia woodlands. One of the greatest features and characteristics that sticks in the mind after a visit to Tarangire are the longest living and biggest trees of world, the Baobab Trees. During the dry season the park supports the highest density of Elephants of all National parks in Tanzania, the other wildlife found here is
Lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, water buck, Grants gazelle, greater and lesser kudu, fringe eared Oryx, tree climbing pythons, baboons, Vervet monkeys, and migratory animals such as zebra and Wildebeest. Stay overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge inside the park.
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti central part via Ngorongoro conservation area. The Serengeti National park is part of the Serengeti ecosystem which boasts the greatest wildlife concentrations of ungulates: more than 1 million wildebeests and nearly half a million zebras annually follow the rains around this eco system, from the plains to the savanna woodlands. This big migration has been described as the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth. We will see lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, gazelle and a lot of bird-life. Stay overnight at Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp.
Today after having breakfast we will Explore vast savannah plains on our way to Kogatende Area. In contrast, Kogatende in the north offers a more remote and dramatic experience, particularly around the Mara River. This area becomes exceptional between July and October when the Great Migration reaches the river, creating intense crossing scenes with wildebeest, zebras, and predators. However, outside this period, wildlife is more scattered and the action is less predictable. Stay overnight at Heritage Mara Camp. Full board.
A full day in Kogatende focuses on the Mara River and surrounding plains, starting with an early morning game drive when predators are most active. You head toward key river crossing and spend time observing herds of wildebeest and zebras gathering, often waiting patiently as they hesitate along the riverbanks. If a crossing happens, it is sudden and dramatic, with intense movement and predator activity. Midday is spent on a relaxed game drive with a picnic lunch while continuing to watch for wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles. In the afternoon, you explore different sections of the river to improve your chances of seeing crossings or predator interactions. Activity increases again toward late afternoon, offering another opportunity for action in better light before returning to camp in the evening. The day is defined by patience, movement between crossing points, and the possibility of witnessing one of the most dramatic wildlife events in Serengeti National Park. Stay overnight at Heritage Mara Camp.
The drive from Kogatende to Central Serengeti takes about four to six hours and doubles as a game drive. You leave early when wildlife is active, passing through the northern hills near the Mara River where migration herds and predators may still be present. As you head south, the landscape opens into wide plains with steady sightings of giraffes, elephants, and antelope. By midday or early afternoon, you reach Central Serengeti, where wildlife density increases again, especially for big cats, and continue with an afternoon game drive. Stay overnight at Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp
Early morning breakfast, we drive back to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Ngorongoro is a huge caldera, a collapsed volcano, 265sqkm in size and 610m deep.
The Ngorongoro crater is one of the most beautiful wildlife havens in the world. It is a real animal kingdom; here some of Africa’s last black rhinos are still well protected. The black mine lions stalk through the grass, flamingo’s crowd the Magadi Lake and the giant-tusked elephants are mostly seen along the permanent swamps. Other animals found in the crater are buffaloes, grants gazelles, Thomson’s gazelles, Zebras, wildebeest, hartebeest, Hippos, Hyenas, cheetahs, leopards and many species of birds.
