Hadzabe and Datoga

The Hadzabe (Bushman) are a hunters-gatherer Tanzanian indigenous ethnic group. Primarily based in Baray, an administrative ward within Karatu in southwest Arusha Region They are one of the world’s last hunter-gatherer tribes. The Hadzabe Population in Tanzania is estimated to be around 1,000–1,500 individuals. They live around the Lake Eyasi basin in the central Rift Valley and in the neighboring Serengeti Plateau. As descendants of Tanzania's aboriginal, pre-Bantu expansion hunter-gatherer population, they have occupied their current territory for thousands of years with relatively little modification to their basic way of life until the last century. The Hadza are not closely related to any other people. The Hadza language was once classified with the Khoisan languages because it has click consonants; however, there is no further evidence they are related. Hadzane fluency is also considered the most important factor in distinguishing whether someone is Hadzab. In more recent years, many of the Hadzabe have learned Swahili, the national language of Tanzania, as a second language. They use bows and poison arrows to hunt big animals like antelope, baboons, monkeys. They use a sharpened stick to hunt birds. Their main diet is meat and honey. The woman gathers wild berries, palm fruits, roots, figs and Baobab fruits. African Wildcats Expeditions, we organized a walking safari in Lake Eyasi area to meet Hadzabe and go hunting together.
